Vegas Shelter Dog Benjamin Is Ready for a Fresh Start After a Tough Surrender

A shy but sweet two-year-old dog named Benjamin is now available for fee-waived adoption at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas after being surrendered and arriving underweight and uncertain.
Benjamin is a large, tan-and-white dog with a quiet presence and a story that tugs at the heart.
Just two years old, he was recently surrendered by his owner and brought to The Animal Foundation’s Mojave Road campus on November 5, where staff quickly noticed how much adjustment he still had ahead of him.
A Dog With A Big Heart
When Benjamin first arrived, he was shy, unsure of his surroundings, and a bit underweight.
It was clear he had been through more than most dogs his age should experience.
Yet even in the stressful shelter environment, his gentle nature never disappeared.
Benjamin is the kind of dog who takes his time.
He warms up slowly, carefully observing the people around him before offering quiet signs of trust — soft nudges, hopeful glances, and tentative tail wags.
Once he feels safe, his sweetness becomes unmistakable.
The Kind Of Home Benjamin Needs
Benjamin would do best in a calm, patient home where he can rebuild his confidence at his own pace.
He’s looking for someone who understands that trust takes time, and that consistency, kindness, and stability can completely change a dog’s future.
Extra affection, regular meals, and a predictable routine will go a long way for him. With the right person, Benjamin is expected to blossom into a deeply loyal companion who bonds closely with his family.

How Adoption Works At The Animal Foundation
Adoptions at The Animal Foundation are handled on a first-come, first-served basis using a digital check-in system.
Visitors scan a QR code upon arrival to join the queue and receive text updates while waiting.
Adoption counselors then guide guests through learning about available pets and arranging meet-and-greets when appropriate.
The shelter follows an Adopters Welcome philosophy, removing common barriers such as landlord checks, home inspections, and restrictive requirements.
The goal is education and successful placement, not exclusion.
Pets are not placed on hold, and adopters are encouraged not to bring existing pets to the shelter. Dog-to-dog introductions are best done in a home setting, and staff provide guidance for doing this safely.
